About this opportunity

A role that makes a real difference

This is a new role funded through Team Barrow in response to the Renters Rights Act 2025.

It’s a key post that will support tenants, hold landlords to account and help us take a more proactive approach to tackling poor practice in the private rented sector.

If you’re motivated, confident in dealing with people and comfortable taking action where needed, this could be a great fit.

About the Role

Working as part of the Housing Standards team, you will work closely with our Homelessness service to support tenants and intervene early where issues arise.

You’ll play a lead role in responding to tenancy related issues, including illegal eviction and harassment and will take enforcement action where necessary.

This is a frontline role that requires a balanced approach, knowing when to support and when to take formal action.

In this role you will:

  • Investigate tenancy related issues under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, including illegal eviction, harassment and retaliatory behaviour
  • Use delegated powers to serve statutory notices and issue financial penalties
  • Gather evidence and prepare cases for legal proceedings
  • Work directly with tenants, landlords and agents to resolve issues where appropriate
  • Provide clear advice on rights and responsibilities to all parties
  • Work closely with internal teams and partners to prevent homelessness and protect tenants
  • Represent the council in meetings and multi-agency work where required

You’ll be part of a supportive team but will also need to be confident working independently and making decisions in live situations.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and interested in improving housing conditions across our communities.

You will:

  • Have experience in housing, enforcement, regulatory work or a similar role
  • Be confident applying legislation and making decisions
  • Be able to manage investigations and build evidence based cases
  • Communicate clearly and remain professional in difficult situations
  • Be organised and able to manage a varied caseload
  • Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

This role will suit someone who is solution focused but not afraid to take enforcement action where it is needed.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a service that is developing in response to new legislation
  • Play a direct role in protecting tenants and improving standards
  • Work in a supportive and flexible team
  • Access ongoing development and training opportunities

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a team where your skills are valued, we’d be delighted to receive your application.
