We’re looking for an inspiring, community‑focused leader to join our Localities Service as the Communities team Locality Lead for Selby & Ainsty.

This is a high‑impact role at the heart of our ambition to be the most local large council in England. You will work collaboratively alongside partners across the public, business and voluntary sectors to build confident, resilient communities that can respond to local challenges, reduce inequalities and support people to live longer, healthier and more independent lives in the places they call home.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and support local projects, partnerships and community‑led initiatives and action plans.
• Build strong relationships with other service teams, community anchor organisations, parish councils and local voluntary groups.
• Help communities shape services, influence decisions and access support.
• Drive place‑based approaches that improve wellbeing and reduce inequalities.
• Represent the council locally and champion positive community action.

The role requires travel across North Yorkshire and occasional attendance at evening meetings.

About you

 We are seeking a confident, experienced team player with an attention to detail, experience of working with a range of community partners and a passion for community empowerment and local government transformation.

What you’ll bring 

• Strong experience in community development, asset-based community-led prevention, multi-agency partnership working or social regeneration.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building and influencing skills.
• Confidence working with councillors, partners and diverse communities.
• Ability to manage projects, budgets and staff.
• A proactive, creative and resilient approach.
• A commitment to inclusive, relationship‑centred practice.
