Assistant Director of Housing Services

We are seeking an exceptional and strategic senior leader to join a forward-thinking Housing and Communities Directorate at Hull City Council, with responsibility for leading housing services that impact thousands of homes and communities. This is a unique opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage substantial budgets, while shaping the future of housing development and growth, building safety, repairs, compliance and asset management.
About the Role
You will provide visionary and strategic leadership across housing functions including:
- Drive sustained service transformation, digital innovation, change and organisational development
- Compliance in housing / landlord services and initiatives, aligning with local needs, government policy, and broader regeneration / community objectives
- Sustainability and improvement in homelessness prevention, temporary accommodation, and allocations/lettings -Deliver housing advice, safeguarding and tenant support services
- Financial planning, budgeting, and risk management
- Leading continuous improvement and complex community programmes
- Engaging and involving tenants and residents in service delivery, building trust and cohesive communities
- Partnering across internal teams, commercial subsidiaries, community and voluntary stakeholders, and regulators
You will be a key member of the Housing and Communities Directorate, helping to shape organisational strategy and deliver high-quality, effective, responsive, meaningful, housing services that put tenants and residents at the heart of everything.
About You
We want a leader who:
- Has substantial senior-level experience in housing and landlord services within social, supported, or affordable housing sectors
- Demonstrates strong people and financial acumen and experience managing multi-million-pound budgets
- Can led and deliver service transformation and digital innovation across Housing, Neighbourhood and Property Services
- Understands tenants, communities and regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements deeply
- Has a track record of delivering sustainable housing and landlord services, at a strategic level
- Is skilled in building, motivating, and inspiring high-performing teams
- Communicates effectively with senior leaders, elected members, boards, tenants, community and voluntary groups and external partners
- Is resilient, adaptable, and passionate about putting people first and driving positive change
